Method of treating weight loss disorders

There is disclosed a method of treating weight loss disorders. This method consists essentially of administering to a mammal, such as a human, a daily dosage of at least about 10 milligrams per 37 kilogram body weight of at least one opiate antagonist. These opiate antagonists include naloxone, naltrexone, nalorphine, diprenorphine, levallorphan, pentazocine, metazocine, cyclozocine, etazocine, and pharmacologically acceptable salts thereof. The use of naloxone hydrochloride as the opiate antagonist is preferred.

Methods for inhibiting weight gain or inducing weight loss

A method of inhibiting weight gain or inducing or facilitating weight loss comprising administering to a human an effective amount of a compound having the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.3 are independently hydrogen, --CH.sub.3, ##STR2## wherein Ar is optionally substituted phenyl; R.sup.2 is selected from the group consisting of pyrrolidino, hexamethyleneamino, and piperidino; or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of solvate thereof.

Apparatus and method for determining weight loss of a heated material

The present invention provides a method and apparatus for accurately determining weight loss of a sample during heating in a furnace. The method includes the steps of placing a sample in a heated furnace, heating the sample while measurements of sample weight are made, determining rate function from the sample weight measurements, producing a weight loss correction factor using the rate function and using the weight loss correction factor to obtain a corrected weight loss for the sample.
